In 2005, under the dual leadership of the Ministry of Railway and the Ministry of Public Security, and closely aiming at the safe railway with ¡°Nice service, good order and favorable security¡±, the railway police put more efforts in rectifying public order in stations, on trains and within railway areas so as to create a sound environment for ensuring the security of railway freight and the safety of passengers. During the year, 34,000 criminal cases were cleared with 30,000 criminals arrested.
Severely combated and suppressed the offences and crimes endangering the security of railway transportation. Targeted operations against junkyards along railways were organized, with 3,427 crimes of breaking then stealing railway facilities and materials cleared, and 1,581 offences endangering railway traveling punished.
Exclusively concentrated on rectifying public order problems in railway areas, as the public¡¯s greatest concern, such as illegal seat occupation and selling, illegal venders around the train, ticket-hawkers and extortion, etc, which seriously tampered with the station order and that on the train, and undermined the passengers¡¯ sense of security. 327,000 offences were cleared with 28,000 ticket-hawkers being punished.
Vigorously organized operations against fugitives,
taking advantages that the railway police has by searching and obtaining crime clues. Fugitives being arrested by the railway police totaled 19,000, accounting for 36.5% of the whole by the police across China, with 3855 drug cases cleared, 351.5 kilogram drug seized, 43 criminal groups smashed, and 8448 series offences suspects arrested.
