In 2005, Special operations were launched in public assembly sites, units storing explosive and flammable materials, department stores and markets, hospitals and schools as well as units which had been warned of existing the potential fire risks. Safety examinations campaigns were carried out in winter and spring times. All the above-mentioned efforts lead to the decreasing of the risks. There were 236,000 fire accidents resulting in 2496 deaths,2506 injuries and the economic losses worth of 1.36 billion Yuan. Compared with the year of 2004, all the above figures decreased by 6.7%, 2.6%,15.6% and 18.6% respectively.
Assessment based on the information collected on the major potential risks was made. They focused on the researches of the action plans on the public assembled areas and practices for the rescue work in high buildings, underground construction sites, oil and chemical plants. They improved the capabilities of the special forces and equipments, which contributed to the overall improvement of the capability of the fire fighting forces. During the whole year, fire fighting brigades attended 395,000 scenes of fire and other disasters, saving 11,5000 victims at risks and the assets worth over 35.02 billion Yuan.
Chinese fire brigades actively improved their fire prevention plans and capacity, speeded up the development of the fire brigades at all levels as well as enhanced the community and rural areas fire prevention capacity, all of which led to the overall improvement of the fire fighting capacity of the forces in both the urban and rural areas. Publicity on fire prevention and fighting were extensively launched in communities, factories, schools and rural areas. A gala named the Pride of China themed on fire prevention and fighting was held. Training sessions were held for the legal representatives of enterprises, people holding the responsibility of preventing fire and the people with the accountability of fighting fire and maintaining the fire equipments.
