In 2005, the Exit & Entry Administration Department took more active measures to improve both the administration level and the service, and made new contributions to maintaining the order of legitimate travels. During the whole year, the police checked 300 million persons-time and 24,076,000 means of conveyance crossing borders.
Residents in more cities including Tianjin, Chongqing, Shengyang and Dalian of Liaoning province, Jinan of Shandong province, Chengdu of Sichuan province, were permitted to travel to Hongkong and Macao for the purpose of tourism or employment. Residents in 44 more cities were permitted to have ordinary passports based on their own needs.
Chinese exit & entry agencies improved the level of administration on foreign nationals, properly settled cases involving foreign nationals, cleared up a batch of foreign nationals of illegal entry, overstaying or illegally employed. They took further effective measures to crack down on illegalimmigration by means of tightening their supervision on the agencies facilitating exit & entry activities, took even more
effective measures to check the passport applicants. The police forces severely fought against illegal immigration activities such as document fraud, illegal entry by means of hiding in containers as well as foreign illegal migrants taking China as a transit country. Through all the efforts, public security agencies investigated and punished 6807 persons-time of illegal entry, and punished 250 criminals who organizing or facilitating others illegal entry. |
