On 28 April 2005, police agencies in China launched a whirlwind operation to fight against robbery, snatch, theft and other frequently occurring crimes against property, achieving great success. In the crackdown operation, 1,424,000 cases were cleared, 863,000 criminal suspects were apprehended, up 5.3% and 3.2% respectively from 2004. Among which, 16,000 cases of car theft and robbery were cleared, 1,912 criminal gangs involved in car theft and robbery were smashed, 16,000 criminal suspects were apprehended, and 7,919 stolen vehicles were reclaimed. As a result of the crackdown operation, the rampancy of frequently occurring crimes against property was brought under control. Compared with 2004, the number of cases of robbery, snatch and theft dropped by 2.3%.
