In 2006, the customs police actively launched special and united operations to investigate the cases of smuggling through the channels of freight, machining and trade, and smuggling duty-free and duty-reduced cargo. They filed and investigated 1,140 smuggling cases in totality and arrested 2,836 criminal suspects, involving commodities worth 13.58 billion Yuan and tax evasion in value of 3.24 billion Yuan. They also investigated 337 cases of smuggling, manufacturing and trafficking drugs, seized 789 kilograms of drugs in variety, and arrested 523 criminal suspects during their anti-drug operations in 2006.
