In 2006, the railway police carried out crackdown on offenses and crimes endangering railway security, clear 2,956 criminal cases and 1,079 offenses jeopardizing public order. By organizing raids named ˇ°Railway Hawkˇ± and ˇ°Blue Shieldˇ±, and rectification of such problems as robberies, snatches, thefts, ticket-hawkers, and forcibly occupying and selling seats, the railway police cleared 6,093 cases of robbing, snatching and stealing properties from passengers, eliminated 105 flee-hither-and-thither criminal gangs, and investigated 21,000 ticket-hawkers, resulting in restoration of public order in railway stations and passengers' satisfaction with railway police services. Additionally, taking advantage of their superiorities in detection, the railway police arrested 15,000 trans-province fugitives whose profiles had been stored in computer database and shared between public security agencies in China, and cleared 3,311 drug-related cases and 80 firearm-related cases, resulting in the seizure of 331.8 Kilograms of illicit drugs, 53 various firearms and 77,000 bullets respectively, in 2006.
