In 2006, in accordance with the deployment of the Committee of Political Science and Law under CPC, Chinese public security agencies carried out the targeted campaign to crackdown on criminal gangs. According to the requirement of the “dismantling criminal gangs”, Chinese police took the “crackdown on the criminal gangs at the initial stage” as the guideline, carried out a tough operation to fight against criminal gangs by taking various effective measures, destroyed quite a few criminal gangs as well as their “shielding umbrellas”, cleared quite a few serious criminal cases and achieved some fruits in certain extent. In 2006, 346 criminal cases related to criminal gangs were cleared, and 296 of them were sent for prosecution. 7146 criminal suspects were apprehended and 1347 criminal gangs were smashed.
